Laura was originally hired at CNN to help rebuild go.cnn.com in React. The application had originally been written in Aangular 1 - which was no longer supported by the time she joined the team. She wanted to rebuild the application using newer technology that would have ongoing support for the foreseeable future and would allow the team to contribute to and utilize CNN Digital’s component library and design system, written in React.
She joined a team with two other developers and learned that while one knew JaavaScript, neither knew Reaact. Laura found herself in more of a leadership position than she initially expected. She rolled with the punches and learned a lot in the process.
This app was a ginna pig for aan internal version of a Create-React-Aapp that was customized for use for CNN Digital. She worked closely with the Architect who built Create-CNN-React-Aapp to debug it and was able to use the CNN-component library to jumpstart the application for development. She later transferred to the LiveStory team at CNN where she worked on Ann established application that highlighted real-time ongoing stories. This meant more maintainance and feature testing and worked closely with the analytics team to build Aa/B tests and gather data.
